Project to setup Sun Microsystems servers ranging from E220R to E6500 for a new perpetual inventory system deployment. Setup and integration of VeritasNetBackup 3.4 with Storage Tek L700 using STK 9840 fibre channel drives and Brocade fibre channel switch. Design and deployment of centralized configuration management scripts. Engineering consulting for Sun E10000 deployment. Third-party software installation and management. UNIX system and network security consulting. Installation and configuration of mail system to allow UNIX systems to deliver mail to MS Exchange server.
Design and re-architecture of enterprise backups for production environment scaling. Evaluation of Veritas GDM for use with Veritas NetBackup multiple master servers.
Design and specification of systems to meet customer need. Primary focus was E10k server consolidation and storage. Technical advisor to sales and project management staff.
Started as on-call system administrator for Amazon.com production website with first contact responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the retail website. Designed and documented procedure for building Amazon.com retail webservers. Firewall installations and maintenance, data warehouse (Sun Ultra E10000) system administration, design and implementation of enterprise network backup. Promoted to Manager Systems Engineering in May 1999 with hands-on technical and managerial responsibilities for website operational engineering and enterprise backups. Moved to Security group in March 2000 to work on system and network security issues.
Network Administrator for a 900+ node network for Primex in Redmond. Responsible for network infrastructure (routers, switches, etc.), Internet connectivity and firewall, and about 100 UNIX based servers. Setup corporate T-1 Internet connection and Firewall that acts as Internet gateway for company sites in seven US cities. Completely reworked company's backup system with full supporting documentation. Setup dialup remote access system using Portmaster 2E. Installation and maintenance of Network Appliance F520 file server. Installation and configuration of Cisco 5500 Catalyst switch acting as network backbone.
Technical support to over 3000 frame-relay, World Wide Web, and dialup customers. On-site installation technician for new corporate frame-relay connections. Cisco router set-up and configuration for corporate frame-relay customers. System administration duties included new account construction, domain name service, Sendmail administration, World Wide Web server maintenance, and other general system administrative duties. On-call technician for corporate frame-relay connections. Technical support for HTML, PERL, and CGI for individual and corporate World Wide Web customers.
Website construction and maintenance of World Wide Web site with associated graphics. Consulting on available slip/ppp software for client use and its configuration, consultation on various other client software such as news readers, web browsers, ftp clients, archie clients, and viewers, etc. On request, response to customer software problems.
Ongoing project to move all quality control activities to computer automation. Designed and implemented a variety of microbiological and statistical computer programs. End user support. Technical manager of all quality control activities, including staff supervision, capital and operations budgeting, computerization activities. Responsible for compliance with all applicable inspection and quality requirements imposed by government agencies.
Applied and molecular microbiology research work in seafood safety. Developed computerized data analysis tools for ongoing use by research personnel.
